Why Shopping Local Strengthens a Community

Did you know jaylife13 is a Canadian brand? We hire and focus on distributing in Canada. Why? Because we see what local businesses can do for a community. They support families, and keep the local economy thriving and moving. When dollars are spent locally, they can in turn be re-spent locally. This cycle raises the overall level of economic activity, pays more salaries, and builds the local tax base.

When we support local stores and businesses we allow the entrepreneurial spirit to grow. Customers are provided with a unique shopping experience unlike what you would typically find in a big box store. In these local businesses we are given an opportunity to connect with the owners, locals and get a taste of the environment they operate in. Along with the everyday challenges of operating small businesses, these owners have also had to deal with major pandemic challenges along with the cyclical seasonal challenges. As we navigate these ever changing times, supporting the local base becomes ever more important. Small businesses are the cornerstone of all communities and are fundamental to the vibrancy of any local town or city. So when you plan to make your next purchase, support with your dollars by taking a moment to pause and think about not only the purchase but the place you get it from. Your dollars and support make a difference, and as an entrepreneur I greatly appreciate the support.

The following small businesses support jaylife13 by carrying our products, telling our story and sharing their skills and talents along the way! We also sell online which makes us available internationally but our community and our retailers is what supports this business. Each store is locally owned and operated and has a unique entrepreneurial story behind it!

  • Mountain Cultures in Calgary was founded by Jay Vaughan, a competitive skier who turned his outdoor sports passion into a local retail store.

  • AQOutdoors is run by Simon and Nikki, a husband and wife team with a passion for kayaking. They run one of the largest paddling stores in Calgary with another location in Edmonton, Alberta. They cater to paddle sports year round including rentals, courses and programs.

  • Devil's Head Coffee is a Calgary roaster that is run by coffee nerd Chris who is a rock and ice climber extraordinaire and one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. His wife Tanis and team support his business that caters to events, businesses, restaurants and of course all the coffee lovers that need beans.

  • Rollick Co. is located in Black Diamond, Alberta. Again run by a husband and wife team, Colin and Jess who bring joy to locals and visitors through rentals or purchases of e-bike, skateboards, paddleboards, and more. They are a massive supporter of their small town community and surrounding area!

  • Fineline Sup and Fly is located in beautiful Revelstoke, BC and is owned by another husband and wife combo Natalia and Dave. What do you think they specialize in? You guessed it, stand up paddle boarding and fly fishing but they have more gear and accessories so well worth the stop!

  • We'll soon be joining the Alpenland ski and cycle shop in Lethbridge and Blairmore, Alberta. Blairmore is located in the heart of the Crowsnest Pass in southern Alberta bringing gear to locals and visitors all year round. They also offer seasonal rentals and you can find them at the local ski hill in the Pass. This family-owned store has been around for 45 years!

At jaylife13, we appreciate every single sale and every sale comes with a unique story. We are so stoked to be a part of so many individual stories and adventures!!
